HR Self Service – Java version and Banner compatibility

-Users trying to access HR Self Service (most likely for W2’s) are not able to connect using Chrome or Firefox. This is due to the application server where HR SS resides not supporting Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.1 or 1.2. We believe this can be resolved with the upgrade to Oracle e Business Suite (eBS) HR 12.2, which the IS Department and HR are working on and plan to put into production during the second half of 2016. Until then HR SS users will be instructed to use secure.colostate to access HR SS, which is a work-around to this problem.

-Java version and Banner compatibility: As we have already experienced, at the end of September 2015 Chrome will not work with Internet Native Banner (INB). This is due to Chrome no longer supporting the Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface (NPAPI) which includes the Java plug in that INB uses. It is our understanding that Mozilla also intends to remove support for most NPAPI plugins in by the end of 2016. When this occurs Firefox will no longer work with INB.

It is incumbent that Ellucian, the Banner vendor, remove dependencies on NPAPI since browser vendors have and continue to move away from NPAPI (this is true of other application vendors as well). Ellucian is well aware of the NPAPI issue and CSU central IT will continue to monitor this issue.
